The strength and credibility of the Boer goat breed depend on consistent, knowledgeable, and ethical evaluation. The United States – South African Boer Goat Breeders Alliance (US-SABGBA) is committed to developing and maintaining a highly qualified body of judges and inspectors who uphold breed standards, protect breeder integrity, and ensure fairness across inspections, shows, and auctions.

Preserving Breed Integrity Through Education

Judges and inspectors play a critical role in safeguarding the Boer goat’s genetic progress. Through structured training and ongoing education, US-SABGBA ensures that evaluations are based on the South African Breed Standard, functional effectiveness, and objective assessment rather than personal preference or regional bias.

Education is the foundation that ensures uniform interpretation of breed standards across the United States.

Inspector Training & Certification

Alliance inspectors are trained to conduct thorough, unbiased evaluations of Boer goats for inspection, classification, recording, and registration. Training focuses on conformation, identification, reproductive soundness, performance indicators, and compliance with Alliance and Studbook requirements.

Inspectors are required to participate in regular training days, maintain current knowledge of Alliance policies, and adhere strictly to ethical and procedural standards. This ensures consistency and trust for breeders, buyers, and the broader industry.

Judge Development & Show Standards

Judges appointed or recognized by the Alliance are trained to evaluate Boer goats in competitive environments while remaining aligned with breeding objectives. Emphasis is placed on functional traits such as movement, muscling, balance, adaptability, and reproductive indicators.

Judging education ensures that show results reinforce sound breeding practices rather than rewarding superficial or non-functional traits.

Examinations, Accountability & Continuing Education

US-SABGBA supports structured examinations and ongoing evaluation for judges and inspectors. Continuous education ensures alignment with evolving breed data, production realities, and international standards. Accountability measures—including performance reviews and compliance requirements—protect the integrity of the system.

Only those who demonstrate competence, consistency, and professionalism are entrusted to represent the Alliance in official capacities.

Building Confidence Across the Industry

By investing in the training of judges and inspectors, US-SABGBA builds confidence at every level of the industry—from breeders and buyers to processors and international partners. Transparent evaluation processes and knowledgeable officials strengthen trust, protect investments, and support long-term breed advancement.
